  6. Unit was ordered by Pittsburgh & West Virginia and would have been P&WV 101, but was delivered to N&W following merger as N&W 1301. Renumbered to WE 101 in January 2001 and was repainted in the black and orange commemorative P&WV scheme in October 2001.

  7. Painted in black and orange, but with Operation Lifesaver® logo on each side of the long hood in white.

  8. Painted in special black and orange Akron Canton & Youngstown commemorative scheme. Unit has also received yellow reflective frame stripes.

  9. Painted solid black with yellow W&LE lettering, numbers and reflective frame stripes.

  10. Unit has the name "Robert S. Bixler" painted on each side under the cab.

  11. Unit received a low short hood during rebuilding.

  12. Unit painted black with orange road numbers on the cab sides, small Wheeling & Lake Erie lettering under the cab on each side, has orange frame side sill and yellow reflective frame stripes.

  13. Unit has the name "W. J. Holtman" painted on each side of the low short hood.

  14. Unit is painted in special black and white Ohio Bicentennial commemorative scheme with white road numbers on the cab sides, small white Wheeling & Lake Erie lettering under the cab on each side, has white frame side sill and white reflective frame striping, red white and blue Ohio Bicentennial logo and Ohio state flag on each side of the long hood.

  15. Painted bright red with yellow stripes and red gothic WLE letters and numbers. Unit has also received yellow reflective frame stripes.

  3. Unit retains its black and orange Rio Grande paint and lettering, but has received small WE reporting mark and new W&LE style large numbers under the window on each side of the cab. Also has received yellow reflective frame stripes.

  4. Painted in the latest Wheeling & Lake Erie black and orange scheme with yellow reflective frame stripes.

  5. Equipped with an orange warning light on top of the cab for use during remote control operations.

  6. Akron Barberton Cluster Railway (AB) is a subsidiary of the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway.

  7. Painted in black and orange scheme with orange ABC Railway lettering and road numbers.  Has also received yellow reflective frame stripes.

  3. Painted in the second Wheeling & Lake Erie black and orange scheme, which has much smaller road numbers and lettering on the long hood than the latest scheme.  Has also received yellow reflective frame stripes.

  4. Rebuilt from an EMD SD40X (SD40 prototype built on a shorter SD35 frame).

  5. Painted black with orange frame side sill, orange "V" striping on the front of the low short hood, as well as orange road numbers on the cab sides and the rear of the long hood and small Wheeling & Lake Erie lettering below the cab on each side. Has also received yellow reflective frame stripes.

  6. Unit was the first unit to be repainted in full Wheeling & Lake Erie black and orange.  The first scheme included an unusual font style for the lettering and the pilots on each end and the area around the front number boards were black.  The font style for the lettering on the long hood was changed to the latest style in 2002. Area around the front numberboards painted orange in early 2023.

  7. Unit has the name "BoBo" painted on each side of the low short hood.

  8. Equipped with an orange warning light on top of the cab for use during remote control operations.

  1. Akron Barberton Cluster Railway (AB) is a subsidiary of the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway.

  2. Painted in black and orange scheme with orange ABC Railway lettering and road numbers.  Has also received yellow reflective frame stripes.
